Korean On-Site Medical Interpreter (San Antonio, TX)

Summary:
The on-site interpreter will facilitate communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community members and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of medical settings. We combine proven technology with experienced interpreters, to allow direct connection through our Stratus InPerson App. This freelance position is flexible and an opportunity to expand your interpreting business, with access to many sessions per day via the Stratus InPerson App.

In-Person Interpreter Responsibilities:
Provide effective on-site interpreting service for consumers.
Exhibit professional behavior at all times including punctuality and preparedness for shifts and be respectful.
Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies.
Pass screening before taking in-person commitments.
Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context (i.e. hospitals, courts, schools, etc.).
Spoken Language Minimum Qualifications:
Fluent and have strong verbal communication skills in both the source and target language (i.e. Korean-to-English or vice-a-versa).
Must have a minimum of 2 years of in-person medical interpreting experience, within a hospital or clinical setting, credentialed in medical interpreting (i.e.: MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses) – preferred but not required.
Proven medical training with certification, certificate or license is preferred but not required.
Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
Respect for and understanding of our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences as it relates to legal procedures.
Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC).
Familiarity with the medical profession and its privacy laws (HIPAA) as well as other state and federal laws applied to medical interpreting.
Desired Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of in-person medical interpreting experience, within a hospital or clinical setting.
Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
Specialized certifications or training in medical interpreting strongly preferred.
